Throughout this winter we have been planting over 4250 trees and hedgerows in biodiversity boosting, flood busting, community enhancing, fruit & nut producing, climate anxiety reducing, get mud-on-your-boots and colour-in-your-cheeks kind of projects around the Somerset Levels. It’s THANKS to the production companies who have funded CAP tree planting this year and to our planting partners at Reimagining the Levels (RtL).
Come rain or shine RtL volunteers have been madly planting CAP trees in projects that are 'good' in the truest sense of the word. They include several to establish dense, healthy hedgerows around farmland; two projects are focused on planting trees in public spaces allowing everyone to enjoy the enhanced biodiversity and, eventually, the fruit and nuts the trees will bear. One Somerset school project will plant a hedge around their outdoor learning area, and we will also be establishing two community nurseries that will grow next year's trees. We are linking two small woodlands with a coppice, and have planted at Bridies Farm in Glastonbury which runs the brilliant initiative of bringing in teenagers to connect with the land. And finally we will be planting at a project to commemorate the Somerset men and women who lost their lives in World War I.
There's a lot to love.
